  Abstract

Using an oxygen-bomb combustion calorimeter, the molar combustion heats of the ionic liquids 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium Bromine ([Cnmim] Br, where n=8, 10, 12, 14 and 16) were determined at (298.150±0.001) K. The standard molar combustion enthalpies  ΔcHmΘand the standard molar formation enthalpies Δf HmΘ were calculated. The contribution of one methylene group to the  ΔcHmΘ , and Δf HmΘ  was also estimated, respectively. The reliability of instrument was tested by naphthalene, the relative error was 0.15%; for the comparison between the experimental value and literature value about the standard combustion enthalpy of naphthalene.
