  Abstract
Macrocyclic compounds have demonstrated excellent recognition abilities via complexation and encapsulation that make them attractive sensor materials for detection and quantitation of several ions and molecular species in various matrices. A number of such compounds have been incorporated into electrochemical sensors operating in different modes. This review discusses the electro–analytical applications of crown ethers and calixarenes in sensors based on electrochemical capacitance and impedance measurements.
