  Abstract
Lipoma of the parotid gland is a rare tumor which is difficult to diagnose preoperatively based on clinical examination. Imaging studies including CT scan and MRI can help reach accurate diagnosis and surgical resection is the classic treatment. We report a case of a 36-year-old male who presented with 3 year history of a painless right parotid swelling. MRI showed well defined high signal intensity mass in the superficial lobe of the parotid gland, but the fine needle aspiration cytology was non-informative and was suggestive of sialoadenosis. Intraoperatively, the tumor was found to extend into the deep lobe of the parotid gland and therefore total parotidectomy was performed with the preservation of the facial nerve. Histopathologic examination was consistent with parotid lipoma.
