  Abstract
[VIVO(acac)2], on reaction with equimolar amount of benzoyl hydrazone of  2-hydroxyacetophenone and its 5-substituted derivatives (containing two intermediate basic phenolic and amide moieties along with a neutral imine moiety) afforded mainly oxovanadium(V) complexes with VO3+, V2O34+ and VO2+ motifs depending upon the reaction medium (i.e., nature of the solvent e.g., hydroxylic or non-hydroxylic) and also its pH via aerial oxidation. The oxovanadium(IV) complexes were only been obtained in mixed-ligand system in presence of 2,2′-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline (a typical neutral NN donor ligand) as coligand, which have appreciable stability in the solid state but are not very stable in solution. Complexes with VO3+, V2O34+ and VO2+ motifs are interconvertible.
