  Abstract
This article reviews recent work in the area of non-innocent behavior in mononuclear complexes. The coordination chemistry of pyridine-derived ligands is discussed, with particular focus on their non-innocent properties due to the attachment of azo, naphthyridine and quinone functional groups. In addition to the chemistry of the compounds, the application of the complexes with non-innocent ligands is also described briefly. This review provides inspiration and motivation towards the incorporation of non-innocent ligands.
