  Abstract
A new tetranuclear manganese(II) complex, [Mn4(INO)63-OH) )2(H2O) 8](BF4)6•2H2O (1) (INO = isonicotinic acid N-oxide), was obtained from the hydrothermal reaction of Mn(BF4)2with INO. The structural analysis indicates that four Mn(II) centers are bridged by carboxyl group and µ3-OH- to form a [Mn4(INO) 63-OH) 2 (H2O) 8]6+ subunit, and further grow into a 3D supramolecular architecture through hydrogen bondings. The oxidation states of manganese and oxygen atoms are confirmed by bond-valence-sum calculations and accord with the charge balance. The energy gap assessed from the diffuse reflectance spectra is 3.17 eV, showing 1 behaves as wide bandgap semiconductor.
