Przybyszewskiego 63/77, 51-148 Wroclaw, Poland Abstract This review focuses on recent data on the biological activities of embelin found in plants of the Myrsinaceae family. We describe the ability of this compound to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and parasites. The contraceptive and pro-apoptotic properties of embelin are also described.
