  Abstract
Continuous-wave laser oscillation at 912-?914 nm has been demonstrated at room temperature with a class of Nd:YxGd1?xVO4 (x = 0.17, 0.37, 0.53, and 0.80) mixed vanadates, by utilizing a compact plano-concave resonator end pumped by a high-brightness fiber-coupled diode. An output power of 0.4 W is generated with a 2.2-mm thick uncoated Nd:Y0.53Gd0.47VO4 crystal with a pump power of 2.95 W absorbed, the optical-to-optical and slope efficiencies being 13.6% and 24%, respectively.
