  Abstract
The plasmonic properties of a structure consisting of a two-dimensional periodic gold nanoring array and a gold film with a SiO2 spacer are investigated using the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) method. It is shown that the interaction of the nanoring array with its image charges can give rise to stronger localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), resulting in near perfect absorption and larger field enhancement with respect to the nanoring array alone; the interaction between the LSPR and surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) gives rise to double-band resonances and even larger local field enhancement due to the strong coupling between the LSPR and SPP. The proposed structure may be attractive for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), sensing, emitter as well as solar cell applications.
