Suresh Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai - 400076, India Abstract This review attempts to present the current scenario as far as today’s magnetocaloric materials research, particularly on the giant magnetocaloric materials, is concerned. It gives a brief introduction about the significance of this topic, basic theory in the nut shell, a comprehensive account of the important materials systems identified in the recent past and a possible road map towards the development of better and more efficient materials which will be potential for commercial exploitation.
