  Abstract
Phonon dispersion in GaAs/AlAs lateral superlattices on nanofaceted (311)A surface was calculated using enhanced Born approach. The angle phonon dispersions were obtained both for folded acoustic modes and for optic modes. The attempt to study this effect experimentally was carried out for (311)A GaAs6/AlAs8 lateral superlattice with the use of Raman scattering spectroscopy with micro-Raman setup. The spectra of backscattered light in the direction perpendicular to the nanofacets exhibit peaks corresponding to folded acoustic phonons and confined optical phonons. Some differences between calculated phonon frequencies and experimental ones may be due to not-ideal lateral periodicity in lateral superlattices.
