  Abstract
CuO thin film deposited onto ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) coated glass substrates by Reactive Pulsed Laser Deposition (RPLD) technique has been utilized in order to realize a uric acid biosensor. Sensing response of the CuO/ITO/glass electrode upon immobilization with uricase towards uric acid was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The studies reveal that the uricase/CuO/ITO/glass bio-electrode exhibits good linearity over a wide range of 0.05 mM to 1.0 mM uric acid concentration with enhanced sensing response of 1.68 mA/mM and a low Michaelis–Menten constant (Km) of 0.19 mM owing to the enhanced electron communication features of p-type CuO matrix deposited by RPLD. The results confirm promising application of the p-type CuO thin film matrix for development of uric acid biosensor.
